The Te Puke Intermediate Sport Ed programme is all about excellence. The programme is to allow our elite sportspeople the opportunity to continue to excel in their sport on and off the playing field. Students are selected on the merit of their application in terms their history of representation, their attitude on the sports field, their attitude in class and their ability in their sport. At all times excellence is the expectation from the Sport Ed group.

Each term the Sport Ed group has a week based at the schools off-site facility, Te Hapai Rangatahi. Here the group has a classroom for guest speakers like Steve Milne (Assistant coach BOP Steamers) and Waikato/ BOP Magic player Tanya Lund to work with the group and share their experience of playing at the top level of their sport. Throughout the week the group completes activities on sports nutrition, imagery, leadership and relaxation to help them reach their full potential. The off-site facility has a gym available for the students to work on the physical side of their sport.

On top of that the group has visited Bay Body Fit Gym, Mount Hot Salt Water Pools and Smiths Sports Shoes to help with their learning.  On occasions the Sport Ed group has attended Waikato/ BOP Magic games and watched the Waikato Chiefs train to witness the attitude of the professionals plus the speed and strength of the players.

Te Puke Intermediate provides the opportunity for our elite sportspeople to continue to excel in their sport. We plan our programme all around excellence and believe Sam Warriner when she says “a champion’s performances doesn’t end on the playing field, a true champion excels in all that they do.”
